Metros, Buses and Trams
Amsterdam Public TransportFor getting around inside Amsterdam the metros, buses and trams are a cheap, quick and convenient option.
Regular services connecting the whole city operate from about 6am until just after midnight and after that nightbuses provide more limited service to most areas of town.
The main tramlines are concentrated predominantly in the inner parts of the city - outside of the Amsterdam ringroad (A10) these services taper off, giving way to the bus services which also connect outlying villages and surrounding areas.
Metros are faster for travelling longer distances across Amsterdam as they are largely immune to traffic problems, but these only operate south of Centraal Station.
Tickets, Zones & Journey PlanningStrippenkaarts are valid across the whole of this network as well as trains within Amsterdam city limits, and are based on time and zones travelled.
For all journeys using public transport, the GVB provide an online travel planner ‘reisplanner’ with which you can conveniently combine the public transport services to optimise the use of your time and energies ~ it even gives approximations of walking times between platforms when transferring from one transport to another!!! **Unfortunately this tool is currently only available in Dutch - but there is a telephone service with English speaking operators more**
Een goede reis!
